The convicted felon, a resident of Chipeta Village in Chief Shindi’s Chivi territory, led a four-man armed robbery syndicate that terrorised local communities. Court documents reveal Munikwa and his accomplices – Sonboy Pfuwayi, Tawanda Magudu, and an individual identified only as Masunda – conducted coordinated raids on multiple homesteads while armed with firearms.

Their criminal operation netted stolen cash, mobile devices, apparel, and various household valuables before authorities initially apprehended the group. However, Munikwa managed a daring escape from police custody, disappearing into the countryside.

Second Crime Wave and Ultimate Capture

Rather than laying low, the fugitive allegedly participated in additional robberies during his time as a wanted man. This brazen continuation of criminal activity triggered an intensive manhunt by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) investigators.

“The accused displayed complete disregard for the law and public safety,” stated Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri in an official release. “His recapture demonstrates our commitment to pursuing justice relentlessly.”

Justice Served in Chiredzi Court

The case reached its conclusion on June 30 when Magistrate Judith Zuyu handed down the substantial prison term at Chiredzi Magistrates Court. State prosecutor Tanyaradzwa Tinago successfully argued for the lengthy sentence based on the severity of offences and the defendant’s history of evading justice.

Authorities have extended appreciation to community members whose tips proved instrumental in locating the dangerous fugitive. Police continue to seek public assistance in apprehending the remaining at-large suspect, Reason Pfuwayi, who is believed to be connected to the same criminal network.
