Kuwadzana Man Jailed 15 Years For Setting Up Teen Girl To Be Raped

Harare Man Jailed 15 Years For Luring Minor Into Rape

A Harare man has been jailed for 15 years after placing a vulnerable 15-year-old girl in a situation where she was raped. His accomplice, who committed the actual rape, was also handed a 15-year prison sentence.

The Harare Magistrates’ Court found both Blessing Suluwe (22) and Lucious Sikadza (19) guilty of rape in a disturbing case involving a minor who had recently arrived in Harare from the rural area of Sanyati.

The case was confirmed in an official bulletin issued by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) on 7 July 2025.

“The Harare Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Blessing Suluwe (22) and Lucious Sikadza (19) to 15 years imprisonment each,” the NPAZ stated.

Teenager lured and exposed

The girl left her rural home in January 2025, seeking opportunities in the city. After arriving in Harare, she met Sikadza, who offered her temporary accommodation in Kuwadzana.

But instead of offering protection, he placed her in danger.

“On the 6th of March, 2025, Sikadza took the girl to Suluwe’s residence, where she left her under the pretext of returning later,” the NPAZ explained.

While alone at the house, the girl was raped by Suluwe. The court found that although Sikadza did not participate in the assault directly, his actions were deliberate and irresponsible.

“The court established that both Suluwe and Sikadza were jointly responsible,” said the NPAZ.
“One through direct action, the other through knowingly placing the minor in a vulnerable situation.”

Community urged to stay vigilant

The NPAZ used the verdict to call for greater community awareness and protection of children.

“Justice has been served, but prevention is even more powerful,” read the statement.
“We urge communities to remain vigilant in protecting children and reporting any suspicious or exploitative behaviour.”

“Vulnerable young people deserve safety, not silence.”

Both men are now serving 15-year prison sentences each. There was no option of a fine. The combined total of 30 years behind bars is one of the more severe recent sentences in a child exploitation case.

Their conviction sends a strong warning: failing to protect minors—or placing them in danger—will carry serious legal consequences.

“Combating crime and corruption is a collective responsibility,” the NPAZ said.

Know the signs, protect the vulnerable

The public is urged to report suspicious behaviour to police, social welfare officers, or trusted community leaders. Children in distress should be referred to appropriate shelters or child protection organisations.

If you or someone you know is affected by abuse or exploitation, seek help through official child protection agencies.
