Safety Alert: Mzansi’s NCC Issues Recall for Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes-Benz Models

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued an important safety recall affecting multiple luxury vehicle models from Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz. This action comes after manufacturers identified potential safety defects that could compromise passenger protection.

Range Rover Evoque Airbag Concerns

Specific Range Rover Evoque models manufactured between 2021-2024, along with some 2025 units, are being recalled due to a critical airbag defect. Investigation revealed that improper folding during assembly may cause the passenger airbag to tear during deployment.

This manufacturing flaw presents two significant risks:

  • Reduced protective capability during collisions
  • Potential exposure to hot gases that could cause occupant burns

Mercedes-Benz Electrical System Fault

Mercedes-Benz South Africa has simultaneously recalled multiple 2023 models including:

  • SL (232 series)
  • EQS (297 series)
  • GLC (254 series)
  • S-Class (223 series)
  • C-Class (206 series)

The recall stems from potential issues in the fuse box assembly that may not have undergone proper quality control. This electrical defect could lead to: unexpected power failure while driving, compromised safety restraint systems and malfunctioning dashboard displays.

Recommended Action for Affected Vehicle Owners

The NCC strongly advises owners of these vehicles to immediately contact their nearest authorised dealership. All repairs will be performed free of charge as part of the manufacturer’s recall programs.
