EFF calls for CEO Demana’s resignation, set to march on SANRAL

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters are set to embark on a march to the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL)’s head offices in Pretoria on Thursday morning.

The party is calling for the resignation of recently appointed CEO Reginald Demana.

The entity is currently embroiled in a legal battle with a contractor, who seeks payment for a road construction project dating back to 2019.

The EFF is marching to SANRAL’s offices in Pretoria in support of the contractor who is owed about R42 million by the entity.

NZK Footprint Engineering was awarded the tender for the partial reconstruction of the R511 in the North West at a value of R171 million.

The work commenced in 2019 and was expected to be completed the following year.

However, due to delays, and allegations of sabotage, the work was only completed in 2022.

Despite SANRAL being ordered by the Gauteng High Court to pay the contractor last year, it refused and instead instituted counter-legal action.

SANRAL spokesperson Vusi Mona said they would not comment on the matter as it was before the court.

“For our part, we will not allow political pressure to be the arbiter on a contractual dispute, especially because it is currently before court.”

He said the EFF knows what to do should they want to be litigants in the matter.
