A Harare woman has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping her ex-lover and forcing him to sleep with her without protection in an alleged attempt to “remove rituals”.
The incident happened on Saturday and has shocked the Glen View and Highfield communities.
Amanda Chizanga Chakanyuka, 26, is accused of entering the Glen View 7 home of her former boyfriend, Linos Gapanga, 38, in the company of five unidentified men.
“They said I had to sleep with her to remove rituals”
According to Gapanga, he was inside his house when Amanda and the group arrived unannounced.
“I was shocked to see Amanda walking in with five men. They said I had raped and impregnated her,” said Gapanga.
He was allegedly dragged outside, forced into a black BMW (registration ACD 9485), while Amanda and others followed in a Ford Ranger (registration ADG 3211).
The group reportedly drove to Machipisa Pink Lodge in Highfield.
“Amanda went into one of the lodge rooms. Three of the men beat me and forced me inside,” said Gapanga.
“They said I had to sleep with her without protection to remove some rituals.”
Gapanga says he was then left in the room after the group took his wallet containing US$142 (about R2,600) and some bank cards.
Police confirm arrest
Harare police have confirmed Amanda’s arrest.
Speaking to H-Metro, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the Harare provincial police spokesperson, said:
“Police arrested a woman in connection with a kidnapping and robbery case in Highfield.”
“The case involves ex-lovers and five other men. The complainant sustained a swollen face, rib pains, and complained of a headache. He was referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment. Investigations are continuing.”
The five men who accompanied Amanda have not yet been apprehended, and police investigations are still underway.
“I want justice”
Gapanga, who reported the matter immediately after being released, says he wants justice.
“I didn’t deserve what happened. I want those people to be arrested,” he said.
The case has sparked outrage on social media, where many expressed shock at the unusual motive behind the alleged attack.
