Bulawayo Man Downs Rat Poison After His Mother Reprimanded Him For Spilling Cooking Oil

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the young man identified as Thabiso Ndlovu consumed rat poison following an argument about spilled cooking oil on Saturday, July 12.

“The altercation began when the mother reprimanded her son for accidentally spilling two liters of cooking oil,” Inspector Msebele explained. “The situation escalated, leading to this devastating outcome.”

After ingesting the poison, Ndlovu began showing immediate symptoms. His mother discovered him vomiting and he confessed to taking the toxic substance. Emergency services were called and rushed him to Mpilo Central Hospital. He immediately started getting medical treatment on his symptoms as the medical staff treated his condition in a bid to save him.

Despite medical intervention, Ndlovu succumbed to the poisoning in the early hours of Monday morning. Hospital staff notified his mother of his passing at approximately 5:40 AM.

Police Appeal for Peaceful Conflict Resolution

Inspector Msebele emphasized the importance of seeking help during emotional crises: “We strongly advise families to communicate openly and utilize available counseling services. Suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems.”

The police department reiterated their commitment to supporting community mental health initiatives and encouraged residents to access these resources during difficult times.
