Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said that it’s been a relatively calm electoral period with just 10 arrests and 20 cases of crime related to the elections.
Speaking at the provincial Results Operation Centre he said that most of the arrests relate to posters being damaged, assault, and intimidation.
Patekile said that five other people have been arrested in Caledon for theft of IEC equipment and a 64-year-old man has been arrested for voting twice in Cape Town.
“It was generally peaceful all over the Western Cape, with no protests related to the elections.”
Patekile said that no incidents were reported at the 49 identified hotspots in the province.
