The death toll from the KwaZulu-Natal heavy rains has increased from 10 to 11.
Heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, devastated many parts of the province on Monday.
The most affected areas are in eThekwini, where seven people died, while the other four deaths were recorded in Nquthu, Eshowe, and KwaHlabisa.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi said the provincial government is providing temporary shelters to the over 120 people who have been displaced.
“There are three identified places, two halls, and one school, and people now they are back, yesterday [Monday] they went back to go collect their belongings and clean their houses. That’s why you don’t see them in those halls. We have provided them with breakfast, lunch, and dinner and that will continue.”
