Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have, through their lawyers, explained why they have not presented themselves for questioning to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

ZACC’s Invitation for Questioning

In a previous statement, ZACC had invited Chimombe, Mpofu, and Wicknell Chivayo for interviews as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering and abuse of office involving a contractual dispute between the trio over the supply of election materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

ZACC Warns of Action if Trio Fails to Cooperate

ZACC chairman, Michael Reza, speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the swearing-in of High Court judges at the Constitutional Court in Harare, stated that the trio was yet to hand themselves over to the commission for questioning.

Reza warned that if the trio did not voluntarily present themselves within an undisclosed timeline, ZACC would take action against them.

“We know they have their rights but we have our time limit. If they don’t come we will go after them,” he said.

Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu On Why They Haven’t Met ZACC

Now, Chimombe and Mpofu, through their lawyers Antonio & Dzvetero Legal Practitioners, have revealed why they failed to present themselves to ZACC.

The lawyers stated that Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu are currently out of Zimbabwe but are willing to fully cooperate when they return. However, they did not disclose when the duo is expected back in the country.

“Our clients are currently out of the country and will not be able to attend any interviews until their return to Zimbabwe, however, they are willing to co-operate fully with the investigations and are available to attend any requested interviews upon their return.,” part of the latter addressed to ZACC spokesperson  Commissioner Thandiwe Mlobane reads.

Meanwhile, ZACC has stated that it has gathered more documentary evidence into the case of alleged money laundering and abuse of office involving the contractual dispute between the businesspersons.
