Mutare Wins Big As Air Zimbabwe Keeps Daily Flights Permanent
Air Zimbabwe has confirmed that its Harare–Mutare–Victoria Falls route will now be a permanent daily service beyond the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanai World Tourism Expo. The national airline announced the development on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, noting the strong public demand for the route.
Flights now permanent
Air Zimbabwe revealed the announcement in a public notice issued from Mutare.
The airline stated:
“Air Zimbabwe is pleased to announce the continuation of its Harare–Mutare–Victoria Falls route beyond the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanai World Tourism Expo. Initially launched to facilitate travel for attendees of the 15th Edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanai World Tourism Expo, held at Mutare Sports Club, the service quickly proved essential beyond the scope of the event.”
Chief Executive Officer Mr Edmund Makona confirmed that the response from travellers had been “overwhelming.”
He said:
“This route has received an overwhelmingly positive response across the board. It has evolved from an event-specific service to a permanent arrangement, providing essential air access to the Eastern Highlands.”
Route and fares
The airline highlighted the details of the new permanent service.
The route will cover Harare – Mutare (Grand Reef Aerodrome) – Victoria Falls and will operate every day.
Air Zimbabwe announced the fares as:
- US$85 (R1,572) for a one-way ticket
- US$170 (R3,145) for a return ticket
The carrier emphasised that the expansion supports tourism while advancing national development goals.
In its statement, the airline said:
“We are proud to serve as a bridge; linking communities, enabling trade, and showcasing Zimbabwe’s breathtaking destinations.”
Boost to tourism
The move comes after the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanai World Tourism Expo, which brought together industry stakeholders in Mutare earlier this month.
Air Zimbabwe noted that the extension of the flights would benefit both domestic and international tourism.
The statement added:
“This expansion not only supports tourism but also underscores Air Zimbabwe’s vital role in advancing national development goals and connecting communities across the country.”
Travellers and tourism operators have been encouraged to utilise the service, which the airline describes as “an opportunity to open up the Eastern Highlands.”
For bookings, the airline directed customers to its sales offices, agents, or official website Air Zimbabwe.
