Alois Bunjira’s Wedding Plans Shattered as Girlfriend Brenda Zvinorova Dies After Rusape Crash
Former Warriors star Alois Bunjira was preparing to marry his long-time partner, Brenda Zvinorova, in December. But tragedy struck when Brenda died yesterday in Harare, just three days after sustaining severe injuries in a car crash.
The accident happened on Saturday along the Rusape–Nyanga road. Bunjira was driving a BMW that collided head-on with another vehicle, killing two people instantly. Brenda, who was seated in his car, survived the crash but suffered critical injuries.
She was first taken to Rusape General Hospital before being transferred the same day to Milton Park Medical Centre in Harare. Doctors placed her on life support, but after three days of fighting for her life, she sadly passed away.
Brenda was not just Bunjira’s partner but also deeply involved in his projects. She was part of the NetOne Albun Marathon organising team, where she worked as an administrator. Pictures from past marathon functions even show her seated at the top table alongside officials.
Harare businessman Andrew Rusike, who chairs the organising committee, confirmed the depth of their relationship. He explained that Brenda was not just Bunjira’s girlfriend but his fiancée, and the couple had been living together in Westgate with plans to marry before the end of the year.
Rusike also revealed his personal connection to the tragedy. He was one of the first people to arrive at the accident scene and was the one who pulled Brenda from the wreckage. According to him, her first concern after being rescued was whether her hands had survived the impact.
The businessman added that the trip to Nyanga was not for leisure but work. The organising team wanted to assess whether the NetOne Albun Marathon could serve as a qualifier for the prestigious Comrades Marathon. A representative from the Comrades had joined them, and equipment had been brought to measure the race’s standards. Although the evaluation was supposed to take three days, the schedule had been cut to two because of other commitments.
Rusike said Alois and Brenda had already passed Rusape by around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, with him following behind in another vehicle when the accident occurred.
