Jester Tshuma, who is 39 years old and stays in Emthunzini in Bulawayo, appeared at the West Commonage Magistrates Court.

Bulawayo Woman In Trouble For Stabbing Her Neighbour Over Laundry

The State Prosecution told the Court that on 19 February earlier this year, Jester had an argument with her neighbour, Sithembile Dube, who is 38-years-old. Jester’s clothes had apparently fallen off the washing line after she had done her laundry. The altercation escalated and the two female neighbours exchanged unsavoury words.

After they parted ways, Jester processed the words she had exchanged with Sithembile and she took great offence. She would not let the issue slide just like that.

The National Prosecuting Authority reported on the incident:

“They had an altercation over the issue. At around 1300hrs, the complainant (Sithembile Dube) went to fetch water at the borehole and the accused person (Jester) followed her and asked her to repeat what she had said earlier. The complainant told the accused to leave her alone.”

Tempers were already flaring and Jester would not go down without a fight. She advanced and walked towards Sithembile before shoving her forcefully and grabbing her t-shirt.

A witness, Bigboy Nyathi, who was at the Borehole to fetch water, then tried to restrain the two women from thrashing each other.

Deeply incensed, Jester whipped out an okapi knife she had hidden in her pocket, hoisted it and stabbed Sithembile on the left side of her chest.

Wailing, the neighbour fell with a heavy thud as blood oozed out of her chest profusely. People rushed to assist her and took her to the hospital so she could get medical treatment after sustaining a deep cut on her chest.

Subsequently, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) arrested Jester Tshuma.

The National Prosecuting Authority revealed that a Bulawayo Magistrate found her guilty of attempted murder and sentenced her to an effective five years in prison.
