CAF Approves National Sports Stadium for Category Two Matches
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the green light for the National Sports Stadium to host Category Two matches, marking a significant step towards restoring the venue’s full international status.
Eligible to Host Youth and Club Matches
With CAF’s approval, the stadium can now host U17 to U23 African Cup of Nations qualifiers and CAF Champions League preliminary round matches. This follows years of restrictions on its use for major fixtures.
Banned Since 2020
Zimbabwe’s largest sporting facility has been barred from hosting international matches since 2020 after failing to meet CAF’s required standards. The ban applied to senior national team games and other high-profile fixtures, forcing Zimbabwe to play home matches abroad.

Renovations Underway to Meet CAF Standards
