Pitso Mosimane Hails Khama Billiat’s Impressive Achievements in Zimbabwe After He Wins Two Awards

Renowned South African football coach Pitso Mosimane has hailed his former player, Khama Billiat as the best player he has ever coached.

This comes after the Zimbabwean footballer Khama Billiat won two major prestigious awards in his home country.

Khama Billiat’s Stellar Performances

Billiat, who plays for Yadah FC in the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League, was named the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Player of the Month and the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe’s Player of the Month for July.

This recognition came after he scored three goals and provided a single assist in the four games he played during the period.

Pitso Mosimane Heap praises on Khama Billiat

Pitso Mosimane, who worked with Billiat for five years at Mamelodi Sundowns, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his admiration for him.

Pitso Mosimane heaped praise on Khama Billiat, describing him as one of the best players he has ever coached.

Class is permanent. One of the best players I have ever coached,” Mosimane wrote.

Pitso Mosimane revealed the persistent effort he put into securing Khama Billiat’s commitment to Mamelodi Sundowns, sharing that he phoned Billiat every week for a year. During these calls, Mosimane convinced Billiat that he was crucial to helping the team win the CAF Champions League.

I phoned him for a full year, every week convincing him that I will give him support and platform to showcase his talent and that he is the one to help us win CAF Champions League,” Pitso Mosimane revealed.

Mosimane’s Praise for Billiat’s Skills

Pitso Mosimane praised Khama Billiat’s exceptional technical ability, particularly highlighting his skill in controlling aerial balls. He remarked on how Billiat’s first touch was consistently impressive, making him a standout during training sessions.

His first touch on bringing down an aerial ball was amazing. He really loved (Hlompho) Kekana’s long passes (his goal vs Platinum Stars away). What a player to watch in training more than games.”

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach also credited Wayne Arendse’s contributions to Khama Billiat’s development. He noted that Arendse’s defensive prowess helped sharpen Billiat’s skills

I used to put Wayne Arendse on him to sharpen his skills and help him learn how to deal with big defenders. Wayne contributed a lot to his game.

Mosimane’s Fond Memories of Billiat and Teammates

Mosimane also reminisced about the formidable attacking trio of Billiat, Percy Tau, and Keegan Dolly, saying,

What a pleasure to watch Percy [Tau], Keegan [Dolly], [Themba] Zwane and Khama in one team at training. These guys used to score a lot of goals together. Hence they won all major Caf club trophies in one season playing together in the same team.”
