CUT students have been left in shock after a seemingly happy student committed suicide just four days after another student from the school committed suicide.
The campus of Chinhoyi University of Technology is grappling with profound grief and disbelief following the sudden death of a first-year Agricultural Engineering student. Abraham Chabata, described by peers as a model student, tragically ended his life on university grounds last Wednesday.
Student who committed suicide showed no signs of depression
Fellow students and faculty expressed complete shock, noting that Chabata had never exhibited any outward signs of distress or emotional struggle. Described as academically diligent and financially stable, his actions have left the university community searching for answers to an inexplicable tragedy.
This incident marks the second suicide within days at the institution, following the death of another engineering student who was known to be facing significant mental health challenges. The back-to-back losses have cast a pall over the closely-knit campus, prompting urgent conversations about student well-being.

Questions are being raised about whether the University is effectively raising mental health campaigns and awareness. The contents of the suicide note that he left for his parents and friends have not yet been released to the public. Fellow students who saw him every day on campus, however, have grown antsy and are wondering who else may be struggling while smiling.
University Responds With Support
University officials confirmed the tragedy and extended condolences to Chabata’s family, who were equally stunned by his sudden passing. The institution emphasised that it maintains a dedicated team of professional counsellors available to support students through psychosocial challenges.
