DJ Ollah 7 Warned Over X-Rated, Lawless Content
The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has issued a stern warning to DJ Ollah 7 and other content creators, reminding them they are not above the country’s broadcasting laws, even if they operate online.
On Thursday, 17 July 2025, BAZ called out Ollah 7 and other podcasters who have been pushing adult-themed content, warning that their platforms must still follow the country’s media regulations.
In a statement, BAZ expressed concern over what it described as a growing flood of unregulated online shows that ignore the country’s laws. They said some of this content contains harmful, offensive, or unverified information, which goes against national values.
The regulator pointed to several key pieces of legislation, like the Broadcasting Services Act and the Code of Conduct for Broadcasters, that apply to everyone producing media in Zimbabwe.
“These instruments set the standards for responsible broadcasting, ensuring content upholds national values, respects individual rights, and contributes positively to societal development,” BAZ said.
Last week, DJ Ollah 7 tried to argue that his podcast is different from traditional media and shouldn’t be held to the same standards. But BAZ has now firmly told him that he’s mistaken.
Referring to recent reports by H-Metro, BAZ said the same ethical guidelines apply to everyone, whether they broadcast on TV, radio, or social media.
The statement dismissed the idea that online platforms can ignore the rules, saying freedom of expression must always be balanced with respect for others.
“The Code of Conduct for Broadcasters clearly defines the professional and ethical guidelines that all broadcasters, whether traditional or digital, are required to follow. It must be noted that the Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of expression and the media must be enjoyed responsibly and reasonably, with due regard for the rights and freedoms of others. Broadcasting via the internet does not equate to exemption from responsible broadcasting; all broadcasters must meet the same ethical and legal standards. Broadcasting platforms must not become vehicles for lawlessness, misinformation, or the erosion of core national values.”
BAZ also warned that they are closely monitoring all media spaces, including the internet. They said any violations of the law will be dealt with firmly.
“The Authority will continue to monitor both traditional and digital media, and shall not hesitate to decisively enforce the existing laws to protect the integrity of Zimbabwe’s media space. The Authority calls on all broadcasters to familiarise themselves with the Code of Conduct for Broadcasters, and to ensure that their content complies with the law.”
