A drunk Bulawayo man bashed his elderly mother in a violent rage that has landed him on the wrong side of the law.
This shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Ntabazinduna Flats, where a 32-year-old man allegedly assaulted his own mother during an alcohol-fueled rage last weekend.

Zibusiso Phiri stands accused of brutally attacking his 59-year-old mother, Pretty Dube, on the evening of July 14, 2025. According to law enforcement officials, the incident began when the intoxicated suspect returned home and immediately launched into a tirade against his parent.
“The accused allegedly began shouting uncontrollably and throwing household items, including dinner plates, while accusing his mother of undermining his authority as the family’s firstborn son,” revealed a police spokesperson familiar with the case.
Witnesses report the verbal altercation quickly turned physical when Phiri allegedly struck his elderly mother multiple times. The terrified woman fled the residence and sought immediate protection at Mzilikazi Police Station, where officers documented visible injuries from the attack.

Neighbours and relatives disclosed this wasn’t the first instance of Phiri’s violent behaviour while under the influence, though previous incidents reportedly never reached this level of severity.
“There’s been growing concern about his drinking and temper, but no one expected he would actually harm his own mother,” commented a family acquaintance who requested anonymity.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest through their official social media channels, vowing to pursue the case vigorously.
