Durban City FC Table Offer for Zimbabwean Striker Washington Navaya After Impressive Trial

Betway Premiership newcomers Durban City FC are making bold moves to strengthen their squad — and Zimbabwean striker Washington Navaya is firmly in their sights.

The 27-year-old TelOne FC forward, who currently sits at the top of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League scoring charts with 11 goals from 23 matches, recently underwent a four-day assessment with Durban City. According to sources close to the player, the South African side tabled a lucrative offer shortly after the trial.

TelOne Keen to Cash In as Contract Winds Down

A source at TelOne FC confirmed to FARPost that the club is open to letting Navaya go, given that he has just four months left on his contract.

“He was outstanding during his assessment,” said the source. “Durban City were impressed and sent an offer almost immediately.”

Despite the interest, Navaya — affectionately known as “The Navigator” — has reportedly cooled off on the move, and insiders say he’s been unenthusiastic about finalising the deal.

Durban City Bolster Squad Ahead of Debut Season

Durban City FC, coached by Gavin Hunt, have already made five signings as they prepare for their debut season in South Africa’s top-flight league.

Notably, they secured the services of seasoned goalkeeper Dareen Keet, who joined as a free agent after Cape Town City FC’s relegation.

Other signings include:

  • Liam De Kock (defender)
  • Fredrick Asare (Ghanaian goalkeeper)
  • Trevor Mokwena (forward, from Upington City FC)
  • Brooklyn Poggenpoel (midfielder)

Trialists Still Vying for Spots

In addition to signings, a host of players are currently training with the squad in hopes of earning contracts. These include:

  • Haashim Domingo
  • Thabo Nodada
  • Thulani Hlatshwayo
  • Craig Martin
  • Thabang Sibanyoni

Coach Hunt, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United, is expected to make final decisions on trialists before the window closes.
