Eastern Cape Transport Dept on high alert following warnings for snow & high winds

The Eastern Cape Transport Department is on high alert following a weather warning of possible snow and calamitous weather conditions in parts of the province.

On Saturday, the South African Weather Service warned of an intense cold front set to bring strong winds, high waves along coastal parts, and a mid-latitude cyclone.

The department said officials were on standby for any unusual weather occurrences from Sunday into the new week.

“Our traffic law enforcement officers and all response teams will keep an eye on our roads, so that if there’s a need to effect any road closures due to snowfall, we do that in the interest of avoiding people being trapped in the snow,” said provincial transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose.
