EasyJet Suspends Pilot After Naked, Drunk Incident at Luxury Hotel
EasyJet has suspended one of its captains after reports emerged of him wandering around a luxury hotel in Cape Verde completely naked and heavily intoxicated.
The unnamed pilot was seen walking through public areas of the five-star Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa in the early hours of 5 August, following a long drinking session at a nearby bar, according to The Sun.
He was scheduled to fly back to London Gatwick more than 36 hours later, but was grounded after complaints reached EasyJet, and a replacement pilot was found.
An EasyJet spokesperson told the BBC that the pilot now faces a formal investigation, emphasising that passenger and crew safety remains the airline’s top priority.
What Happened at the Hotel?
The pilot arrived at the resort on 4 August and reportedly began drinking soon after. Around 2:30 a.m. local time the next day, hotel guests spotted him stripping off and wandering through the reception area, then continuing to the gym and spa, all while naked and smelling strongly of alcohol.
An anonymous source within EasyJet described the scene as alarming, saying anyone who saw the pilot behaving that way would be hesitant to fly with him in control of the plane.
Flight Cancelled, Investigation Underway
The captain was due to pilot a 4,318km return flight to Gatwick on 6 August afternoon but was pulled from duty immediately once the airline learned of the incident.
EasyJet confirmed the suspension and said the pilot is now under investigation, highlighting their strict code of ethics that requires all staff to act with integrity toward customers, colleagues, and the communities they serve.
