Family Kidnaps And Threatens Neighbour With Pitbull

According to police reports, the nightmare began when the victim, Stanley Munhungeyi, was confronted by neighbours Etheline Mudare (35) and Prosper Mbengo (35) after they allegedly discovered their 14-year-old daughter charging her phone in Munhungeyi’s residence.

What started as a verbal confrontation quickly escalated into physical violence. Authorities state that the assailants struck Munhungeyi with a brick to the head before beating him with sticks. The attackers then allegedly forced their victim into a vehicle and transported him to Msasa, where they compelled him to withdraw $100 from his bank account.

The situation took an even more terrifying turn when additional family members arrived at the scene. One relative reportedly brought a pit bull, threatening to set the aggressive dog loose unless Munhungeyi produced more money. The captors then allegedly held their victim overnight at a residence in Damafalls Phase 2, demanding his relatives send payment for his release.

Police Intervention and Ongoing Investigation

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed that alert neighbours notified authorities, leading to the arrest of the initial couple. However, four other suspects managed to flee before police arrived.

“We’re appealing to the public for any information that might help us locate the remaining suspects,” Inspector Chakanza stated. “This was a particularly brutal case of vigilante justice that could have ended much worse.”

Following his rescue, Munhungeyi received medical treatment at Ruwa Rehab Hospital and has since been discharged. The investigation continues as police work to apprehend the outstanding suspects.
