Family Seeks Justice After Zimbabwean Man Is Murdered In Pretoria Love Triangle

The family of a 24-year-old Zimbabwean man is reeling from a devastating loss and demanding answers after their loved one was brutally murdered in Pretoria, in a killing allegedly sparked by a volatile love triangle. Liberty Shawn Wazara met his tragic end this past Saturday in the Mayville apartment he shared with his girlfriend, a scene his family describes as horrific.

The South African Police Service confirmed a 21-year-old man subsequently presented himself to authorities and has been taken into custody. Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a provincial spokesperson for the police, stated,

“The 21-year-old suspect handed himself in at the police station. He was then charged with murder.”

The accused made his initial appearance before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

A Love That Turned Fatal

Family members remember Shawn as a humble and devoted young man who was head over heels for the woman he began dating in December. His uncle, Everton Wazara, recounted the relationship’s rapid and intense beginning.

“I recall vividly that the love relationship between my cousin Shawn and her girlfriend started on a high. They seemed to be deeply in love with each other,” Wazara shared. “I can tell you with certainty that Shawn really loved the woman and would do many things to show his love. The two quickly moved in together after they met in December.”

However, the idyllic romance soon took a dark turn. Everton revealed that the woman was allegedly maintaining a separate relationship with another man, a fact that Shawn had recently begun to suspect. The tension came to a head on Saturday night after the couple returned from the pub where the woman worked as a bartender.

“There was an argument between the couple, with Shawn asking her where her phone was,” Everton narrated. “The lady insisted she had left her phone at work.”

As the confrontation intensified, the woman reportedly called her other boyfriend, who arrived at the apartment on a motorcycle just before midnight.

“The man was insisting on taking the woman away,” said Everton. “As someone who truly loved the woman, Shawn also went out in an effort to persuade her, but that was when he was repeatedly stabbed. He had several deep stab wounds.”
