Fear Women: Man Devastated After Girlfriend Fakes Pregnancy and Baby’s Funeral Using a Doll

Fake Pregnancy, Real Pain: KZN Man Devastated After Girlfriend Fakes Baby and Funeral

A man from KwaZulu-Natal was left shattered after discovering that his girlfriend had faked an entire pregnancy and funeral—going as far as placing a doll in a coffin.

Nkululeko Zulu, from Machibini in Mandeni, had been in a two-year relationship with Diyana Makukeke (44), who claimed she was pregnant with his child.

Overjoyed, Zulu supported her emotionally and financially throughout the supposed pregnancy, only to find out it was all a lie.

“Your Baby Is Dead” – A Sudden, Suspicious Announcement

Speaking to The DailySun, Zulu recalls the excitement he felt when Diyana first told him she was pregnant.

She used to visit often during the early months. But as time went on, she stopped coming. Then she told me she gave birth—but didn’t send any pictures. Before I could make sense of that, she informed me the baby had died,” he said.

Heartbroken, Zulu and his family decided to bury the child at their homestead in Mandeni.

He covered transport costs from Durban to his home and bought food for the funeral. Community members even helped dig a grave next to his family plot.

Doll in a Coffin: A Funeral Turns Into a Nightmare

Diyana arrived a day late on 2 August in a van, carrying a small coffin. The burial proceeded until Zulu’s older brother insisted the coffin be opened so Nkululeko could see and wipe the baby’s face.

What followed was a shocking discovery.

“I almost fainted when I saw a doll dressed in baby clothes inside the coffin. I couldn’t believe what was happening,” said Zulu.

In the confusion, Diyana fled the scene and has not been seen since.

Aftermath: Confusion, Counseling, and Community Outrage

Zulu, devastated and embarrassed, is now undergoing counseling, supported by friends.

“I don’t understand why she did this to me. I spent so much—on transport, food, even the grave. She kept asking for money throughout the pregnancy. I’m hurt and confused.”

With the grave already dug, the family ended up slaughtering a goat and burying it as part of a cleansing ritual.

Zulu is preparing to open a case at the Point Road Police Station in Durban, as advised by local authorities.
