Scope of the Recall
According to FMCSA, a total of 21,736 vehicles built between 2021 and 2025 are affected. The breakdown of impacted models includes:
- Ford Ranger: 17,741 vehicles
- Ford Everest: 3,317 vehicles
- Ford Transit Custom: 678 vehicles
The recall primarily affects South Africa, where 20,693 units are impacted, followed by Namibia with 657 vehicles, Botswana with 363 vehicles, and Eswatini with 23 vehicles.
Engine Defect Raises Safety Concerns
Ford highlighted a potentially dangerous defect in the left-side camshaft sprocket of the Ranger and Everest models equipped with 3.0L V6 engines produced between June 2022 and 2025.
The defect could cause a sudden engine stall, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.
Infotainment Screen Malfunction
In addition to the engine issue, Ford also reported a fault with the infotainment system.
The screen may freeze, go black, and initiate a system reboot without warning. This malfunction poses a particular risk when drivers are reversing, as the rear-view camera image could freeze or be delayed, creating a hazardous false sense of security.
Ford Urges Immediate Action
FMCSA has urged affected vehicle owners to contact their nearest Ford dealership for inspection and necessary repairs.
The company emphasized that the safety of its customers remains its top priority and assured that corrective measures will be carried out at no cost to owners.
