Former Minister Survives Brutal Attempted Murder in Love-Triangle Dispute, Attacker Jailed

Binga Man Jailed 4 Years for Vicious Attack on Ex-Minister Joel Gabuza

Former Cabinet Minister Joel Gabuza narrowly escaped death after being viciously attacked in Binga earlier this year.

The brutal assault was carried out by 46-year-old Samson Siazuza, who accused the former minister of having a romantic relationship with a woman from Siamwake Village.

How the Attack Happened

In a statement released on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the Regional Court in Hwange sentenced Siazuza to four years in prison for attempted murder.

The court was told that the incident happened on 5 June 2025 at Siamwake Village, under Chief Pashu in Binga. On that day, Siazuza, together with an accomplice still on the run, confronted Gabuza over their suspicions that he was involved with a local woman, Rumbidzai Munsaika.

Consumed by rage, Siazuza pulled Gabuza out of his vehicle and stabbed him in the right eye with a homemade knife. He and his accomplice, identified as Smart Sipu, then beat him repeatedly with logs. The former minister suffered severe head injuries and deep cuts, but he survived after being rushed to Mpilo Hospital, where he received urgent medical care.

Police later recovered the weapons used in the attack, while investigations are still underway to arrest Sipu, who remains at large.
