Inside Natalie Mhandu’s Alleged Witchcraft Ritual At Churu Farm

Socialite Natalie Mhandu appeared in court yesterday over sensational witchcraft allegations, which include claims of spell casting at a farm in Glen View.

The court heard the allegations on 7 August 2025, a day after her initial appearance. She was released unconditionally by Harare magistrate Sikhethile Moyo. Bail was not discussed as she had been summoned from home.

According to the State, Mhandu allegedly asked her former maid, 48-year-old Elizabeth Mharire, to join her in visiting a traditional healer, Christine Matashu, also known as Manjenjenje.

“She agreed and they picked up Matashu from Glen Norah before heading to Churu Farm in Glen View,” the State papers allege.

Alleged ritual at Churu Farm

The court was told that, once at the farm, Matashu allegedly instructed Mhandu on how to perform a ritual.

“She produced a red cloth and wrote several names, including Mwarianesu, Amanda, Ishmael and Tariro Maumbe,” the papers claim.

It is further alleged that Matashu tied snuff to the cloth and instructed Mhandu to dig a hole, bury the cloth and a knife — known in Shona as bakatwa — while uttering her wishes.

After the act, the three allegedly returned home.

Confrontation and alleged discovery

The State alleges that on 5 July 2025, Mharire returned from town and found snuff scattered in her bedroom. She allegedly also saw it on the toilet seat.

“When she asked Mhandu why she was doing all those things, she was told it was her ancestral spirit,” the court heard.

Mharire allegedly told Mhandu she could no longer work for her. It is claimed Mhandu then deleted all her pictures from her phone.

On 9 July, Mharire allegedly told the complainant that Mhandu had cast a bad spell. The next day, she packed her belongings and left the house.

On 14 August, Mharire accompanied the complainant to Churu Farm, where they allegedly dug up the buried cloth and knife.

Mhandu is scheduled to return to court on 13 August 2025 for the start of her trial.
