A fire has once again gutted Glen View 8 Home Industry, marking the 11th such incident at the furniture manufacturing hub.

The City of Harare confirmed the outbreak in a notice, saying:

“The Glen View 8 home industry is on fire again. Our fire brigade teams are attending to the fire. We will keep residents updated on the issue.”

The Glen View 8 complex, one of Harare’s busiest informal trading spaces, has suffered repeated fire disasters over the years, often destroying property worth thousands of dollars and leaving traders in financial ruin.

Glen View 8 Home Industry History of Infernos

This latest inferno is the 11th recorded incident, raising renewed concerns about fire safety standards and disaster preparedness at the site.

Currently, over 4,000 traders operate from the Glenview Area 8 complex.

The complex, frequently encountered fire breakouts have been attributed to human error.

The last inferno was in July 2025.

The blaze, which broke out around 5 am, destroyed goods valued at an estimated US$100,000, impacting businesses that specialise in carpentry, including the manufacture of wardrobes, kitchen units, and sofas.

After the last fire, the Government shared plans to construct a state-of-the-art trading facility for small and medium entrepreneurs who operate in the Glen View Area 8 Home Industry.

Government said when the construction of the Mbare Musika Phase 2 begins in September, that is the same time the construction of the Glen View Area 8 Home Industry would commence.
