Government Names 2025 Honours Recipients Ahead of Heroes Day

The Cabinet has approved the list of individuals who will receive national honours and awards in 2025, including three standout names set to be recognised during the upcoming National Heroes Day commemorations.

Alongside the usual medals given to veterans of the liberation struggle, this year’s honours will spotlight three exceptional individuals from different walks of life:

  • Prof. Vladimir Gennadyevich Shubin, a key Soviet ally during the liberation era, will receive the Zimbabwe International Friendship Award. Shubin once served as secretary of the Soviet Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee and led the Africa section of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union’s International Department.

  • Inasem-L Chitutu, a teenager hailed as a hero after rescuing two children from a burning house in Bindura, will be awarded the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe for his bravery.

  • Dr. Madeline Nyamwanza, Zimbabwe’s first female African medical doctor, will receive the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Commendation Award for her contributions to human capital development in the country.
