A Gwanda man has become a murder suspect after he murders his neighbour after an alcohol payment dispute.
What began as a casual drinking session at Mpala Business Center ended in tragedy when a heated argument over unpaid alcohol escalated into a deadly physical confrontation.
Gwanda Man Murders Neighbour Over Alcohol Payment Dispute
Bright Ngulube, 48, from Nhwali area, appeared before Gwanda magistrate Progress Murandu this week, charged with the murder of his neighbour, Bongani Ncube. The incident occurred on July 9, 2025, when tempers flared during a drinking session at a local bottle store.
According to court prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba, Ngulube allegedly launched a brutal attack on Ncube after being confronted about drinking without contributing to the alcohol purchase.

Details of the Fatal Incident
Shumba revealed that Ncube and other patrons were already drinking when Ngulube joined them. The situation turned ugly when Ncube demanded Ngulube contribute money for the shared alcohol. Ncube was angry that Ngulube joined them despite not paying for any of the alcohol.
“The verbal exchange quickly escalated into physical violence,” Shumba stated. “In an apparent fit of anger, the accused repeatedly struck the victim’s head with his own, causing fatal injuries.”
Man Who Murdered His Neighbour Over Alcohol Charged In Court
Ngulube was not required to enter a plea during his initial court appearance. Magistrate Murandu remanded him in custody until August 9, 2025, while investigations continue.
