In a heartbreaking accident, a 27-year-old bus conductor tragically lost his life after falling from a moving bus and being crushed by its left rear wheels in Harare. The incident occurred on Saturday along Nemakonde Road when the conductor opened the bus door while it was still in motion.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the details in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), cautioning conductors against this dangerous practice.
“The ZRP warns bus and commuter omnibus conductors against opening doors while the vehicles are in motion,” he said.
The conductor had opened the door with the intention of picking up a passenger near Conway College. However, he tragically lost his balance, fell onto the road, and was fatally struck by the bus’ left rear wheels.

The victim allegedly opened the door while the bus was in motion intending to pick a passenger and he fell on the tarmac before he was hit by the bus’ left rear wheels,” Nyathi added.
The 27-year-old conductor sustained severe head injuries and was quickly rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
“The victim sustained head injuries and was ferried to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital where he succumbed to injuries on arrival,” Nyathi concluded.
