Harare Man Uses Zanu PF Name to Skip US$5.6K Car Rental Bill
A Harare man is in trouble after allegedly pretending to be on Zanu PF business so he could rent two cars without paying.
Prosecutors say 27-year-old Martin Mutize, from Budiriro, approached car owner Sanangurai Kundidzora in July 2025, asking for a white Toyota Hilux and a grey Audi for 28 days. He reportedly agreed to pay US$150 a day for the Hilux and US$50 a day for the Audi.
According to the State, Mutize told the owner the cars were needed to transport Zanu PF delegates. But investigations later suggested that wasn’t true — he had allegedly been using the vehicles for himself.
When the 28 days were up, Kundidzora realised no Zanu PF officials had been driven in the cars. Despite keeping the vehicles for almost a month, Mutize allegedly never paid the US$5,600 owed.
Prosecutors summarised the matter bluntly, saying he lied about the purpose of the rentals purely to get the vehicles for personal use.
“The accused misrepresented facts to the complainant so that he would use the vehicles himself,” prosecutors said.
Mutize appeared before provincial magistrate Apolonia Marutya and was remanded in custody while waiting for a bail decision.
