Harare ZRP Officer Arrested with Obstructing Justice in Armed Robbery Case
A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer has landed in serious trouble after allegedly trying to interfere with an ongoing armed robbery investigation.
Lawrence Masimba (35) appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai, facing charges of obstructing the course of justice. He has been remanded in custody while waiting for a bail ruling expected later this week.
The State outlined how the case unfolded. On August 27 at around 9:30 pm, police officers from ZRP Braeside were on patrol at Queensdale Shopping Centre when they came across a silver Nissan NV350 parked near Queensdale Sports Club. The vehicle was linked to suspected armed robbers, who fled the scene and abandoned it.
A search of the car revealed critical evidence, including a Taurus revolver, a black pistol, a passport belonging to Crispen Kado, a Nokia cellphone, and vehicle number plates (AGA 5316). The items were secured at ZRP Braeside for further investigations.
It is alleged that Masimba later stepped in improperly. He is accused of contacting one of the arresting officers, requesting the release of the seized items without going through the proper legal process.
Investigators say he even went to the police station in the early hours of the morning—around 3:30am—to try and push for the release of the exhibits. His suspicious behaviour reportedly led to his arrest.
