Hwange Driver Arrested for Stealing Nearly 4,000 Cases of Chibuku Super

A Delta Beverages driver has been arrested for allegedly stealing almost 4,000 cases of Chibuku Super beer and pocketing the proceeds.

The driver, 38-year-old Munyaradzi Gotora, appeared before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court this week, facing three charges of theft involving a total of 3,988 cases of beer. He was remanded in custody and is expected back in court on 14 August.

According to the State, the alleged thefts took place between 25 June and 9 July 2025 while Gotora was working at the Delta Beverages depot in Hwange. Instead of delivering beer shipments to Binga and nearby areas, Gotora is accused of selling the loads himself and keeping the money.

In one case on 26 June, he reportedly sold 1,189 cases worth US$4,451 but never deposited the money. He allegedly covered his tracks by falsifying invoices and claiming the delivery was a credit transaction with Gain Cash and Carry — but no one had signed for it.

Just days later, on 30 June, he allegedly repeated the trick with 866 cases worth over US$3,200, again misrepresenting the deal and keeping the cash.

The biggest heist came on 5 July, when Gotora allegedly sold 1,933 cases of Chibuku Super worth US$8,779. This time, he deposited only US$2,110 and is accused of converting the rest to personal use.

The thefts were uncovered after stock records flagged major irregularities. Police later searched Gotora’s home and found receipts linking him to the missing beer.

The accused person will appear next in Court on the 14th of August.
