The accused, in a moment of anger, is reported to have stabbed her husband on his left elbow with a kitchen knife. Following this, she allegedly struck him on the mouth with a dinner plate and inflicted further injuries by hitting him multiple times with enamel cups.

As a result of this assault, the husband sustained visible injuries, including a deep cut on his elbow and a swollen upper lip, prompting his decision to seek justice through the court system.

Sentencing and Court Ruling

After thoroughly reviewing the evidence, the Hwange Magistrates’ Court issued a verdict. The woman was sentenced to a 12-month imprisonment term.

However, the court granted a partial suspension, reducing the immediate prison time due to mitigating factors. Six months of her sentence were suspended for five years, conditional upon her avoiding any further legal infractions during that period. Additionally, the remaining six months of the sentence were converted to 210 hours of community service.

The National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) used this case to emphasize the importance of non-violent conflict resolution within families and relationships. In a public statement, the NPAZ encouraged citizens to explore peaceful avenues to address disagreements, reminding the public of the legal and personal risks associated with violent behaviour.
