South African influencer and DJ Cyan Boujee has apologised after promoting the controversial Alabuga Russian job programme. The Department of International Relations confirmed the scheme is under investigation for possible human trafficking. Cyan faced backlash after her posts encouraged young people aged 18 to 22 to apply.
She has since deleted the content and admitted she rushed into the promotion without proper checks. Cyan explained she joined because other influencers travelled abroad under the same programme. She insisted she never intended to mislead her followers or put them at risk.
Cyan admitted she remained silent initially, waiting for the programme to issue a statement. However, when no clarification came, she decided to speak directly to her audience.

Cyan stressed her involvement was not motivated by financial gain. She revealed she had not been paid and only expected payment after more videos.
“I want people to know this wasn’t for money,” she said. She confirmed she had four more planned posts on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
These were cancelled after the programme came under scrutiny. Cyan expressed regret for not being more cautious before promoting the job offer.

Cyan called human trafficking a serious issue that must not be ignored. She described the scandal as a “huge learning curve” for herself and other influencers. Cyan also expressed hope that affected young women will now receive protection and help. “We are humans and we make mistakes,” she said. Despite her frustration, Cyan said her focus now is on accountability and awareness. She promised to be more responsible when promoting opportunities in the future.
