A Harare-based InDriver driver lost his employer’s car after he was pepper-sprayed in a violent carjacking. He was ambushed and violently robbed of his employer’s vehicle. The harrowing incident, which left three children injured in a subsequent crash, has been confirmed by local authorities.
The driver, thirty-six-year-old Gabriel Chivanga, accepted a booking to transport a client from Mukonono Road in Mufakose to the suburb of Budiriro. Upon arrival, he was met by the individual who had placed the call, who then directed him to collect three additional passengers from a nearby block of flats. Unaware of the impending danger, Chivanga allowed the group to board his blue Toyota Aqua. The situation quickly escalated as soon as the journey began.

It was at this moment that the driver was assaulted. Without warning, he was sprayed with a potent pepper spray directly to the face, causing immediate disorientation and severe pain. The assailants then forcibly opened the driver’s door and shoved him out onto the road before speeding off in the stolen vehicle.
