Child Taken From Housemaid’s Care
The suspect, identified as Sibongile Dzvairo, was arrested after akidnapping the two-year-old boy and falsely presenting him to her lover as their own child.
Sibongile reportedly took the toddler from Bridget Banda’s home in early August while the child was under the care of a housemaid. The disappearance triggered weeks of anguish for Bridget, a mother of three.
“I endured sleepless nights, worried by my missing son,” Bridget said.
Lover Deceived for Over Two Years
Investigations revealed that Sibongile had taken the child to Kwekwe, where her lover, a gold panner, resides. She admitted to lying to him, claiming that the boy was his biological child.
For more than two years, the man had been sending financial support for the child, whom he had never physically seen. Sibongile reportedly told police that she was under pressure after her lover threatened her life if she failed to present the child.
“In desperation, she decided to steal a child under three years old,” Bridget recounted.
Reunion After Weeks of Trauma
Bridget said the breakthrough came when her maid recognized Sibongile days after the kidnapping, prompting the family to alert police.
“They tracked Sibongile to Kwekwe, where I was finally reunited with my son. I was overjoyed to have my child back,” Bridget told H-Metro.
Police Detain Suspect
Sibongile is being held at Rimuka Police Station in Kadoma. She is expected to appear in court soon to face kidnapping charges.
