Knowledge Musona Reveals Why He Snubbed Kaizer Chiefs for Scottland FC

Warriors veteran Knowledge Musona has explained why he turned down interest from overseas clubs to sign with newly promoted Premier Soccer League side Scottland FC — saying the time had come to wrap up his career where it all began: home.

The 34-year-old forward was officially unveiled on Monday at Rufaro Stadium and is set to make his debut this Saturday when Scottland faces FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium. He joined the Mabviravira outfit as a free agent after leaving Saudi Arabian club Al-Okhdood.

Despite receiving interest from several teams, including a potential return to his former club Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, Musona said he felt the pull to come home stronger than ever.

After spending his entire career abroad, from launching in South Africa in 2009 to stints in Europe with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim and Belgian giants Anderlecht, Musona said now was the perfect time to experience domestic football in Zimbabwe before retirement.

”I have been playing international for the past 17 years, and look, I’m winding up my career, I thought it’s always best to go back home. It’s also a good experience that I have never played in Zimbabwe before, so I thought it’s the best time to come back home and enjoy my last years of football here.”

Musona also noted he had never played club football in Zimbabwe before and felt it was something he didn’t want to retire without experiencing.

Dream Come True: Playing with His Brother

For Musona, signing with Scottland isn’t just about a farewell tour; it’s also a chance to finally share a club dressing room with his younger brother, Walter.

He said playing alongside Walter had always been a dream, and while they briefly featured together for the national team, this club partnership feels more personal.

“I have always wanted to play with him, and for the first time we did play in the national team, and it was a good feeling because I have always wanted him to be a great player. I want him to play better than I did, to achieve big things in his career. So I now have an opportunity to push him and help him to do big things and grow his career,” he added.

Musona recently came out of international retirement to rejoin the Warriors squad in preparation for the 2025 AFCON finals in Morocco.
