Tragic End As Homeowner Dies Chasing Intruder
A 58-year-old Kuwadzana man tragically lost his life after confronting a thief who had broken into his home. Amos Pearson was stabbed to death during a violent struggle with the intruder, identified as Bigboy Majenje, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Midnight Break-In Turns Deadly
Amos Pearson and his wife were asleep when Bigboy Majenje broke into their house around midnight. The noise woke the couple, prompting Majenje to flee. Pearson gave chase, scaling the precast wall of his property while shouting “mbavha mbavha” (thief thief) to alert neighbours.
According to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, Pearson caught up with Majenje and assaulted him with a metal rod. However, the situation took a deadly turn.
“In a bid to escape, the accused person wrestled with the deceased and kicked him once on the chest,” said Insp Chakanza speaking to H-Metro.
The scuffle escalated when Majenje gained control of the rod and attacked Pearson, kicking him in the chest. Pearson’s wife and son attempted to intervene, but the injured man returned to his bedroom, where he later collapsed and died.
Neighbours Apprehend Suspect
Enraged neighbours quickly mobilised, apprehending Majenje and delivering a brutal beating before handing him over to the police. The suspect sustained severe injuries in the process.
“As a result of the scuffle, the accused person sustained five deep cuts on the head, broken left arm and broken left leg.” Insp Chakanza confirmed.
Pearson was rushed to Westview Clinic in Kuwadzana but was pronounced dead on arrival. Majenje, now under police guard, is receiving treatment at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
Police Confirm Arrest
Inspector Chakanza confirmed the arrest, stating:
“Accused person was apprehended and taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital where he is admitted under guard.”
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
