Kwekwe Woman Convicted for Assaulting Father and Damaging Family Car

A 28-year-old woman from Mbizo, Kwekwe, has been convicted of domestic violence and malicious damage to property after attacking her father and vandalising the family vehicle.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the altercation happened on 1 July 2024 around 2 PM at the family’s home. The woman accused her father of being drunk, slapped him twice on the head, and then turned violent.

Armed with a brick, she smashed the rear and side windows of a Toyota Ipsum, leaving behind damage worth US$250.

Police were called to the scene, and she was arrested and charged. In court, she admitted to the offences. The Kwekwe Regional Magistrates’ Court fined her US$200 and handed down a two-month jail sentence, suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The NPA said incidents like these highlight how quickly family arguments can spiral out of control when violence is involved. It warned that domestic violence destroys family bonds and leaves behind lasting emotional and financial scars.

Kwekwe Men Jailed for Stealing US$1k

In a separate case, two men have been convicted of theft after stealing US$1,040 from a shop in Kwekwe.

On 19 August 2025, Tawanda Murau (34) and Todd Nyamupaguma entered a shop pretending to be customers interested in buying headphones. Nyamupaguma placed his bag and jacket on the counter to block the shopkeeper’s view, while Murau sneaked behind the counter, grabbed the cash, and handed it over to his accomplice.

The shopkeeper grew suspicious and quickly realised money was missing after spotting Nyamupaguma fleeing. He immediately apprehended Murau and called the police. Nyamupaguma was later arrested in Kadoma the following day. The stolen cash was never recovered.

Murau was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with four months suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him with an effective eight-month term.

Nyamupaguma received 15 months in prison, with three months suspended for good behaviour and another three suspended on condition that he repays the full stolen amount, resulting in an effective nine-month jail term.
