Adding to its accolades as the country with the biggest nyash in the world, South Africa has now clinched the title of having the second sexiest accent in the world, overtaking French, Spanish, and British accents, which are often considered the epitome of sexiness.

The Allure of the Kiwi Accent: New Zealand Claims Top Spot

The South African accent recently earned the prestigious title of the world’s second sexiest, falling just behind the Kiwi/New Zealand accent, according to a survey conducted by travel publication Enjoy Travel. The results were based on responses from the publication’s readers.

Enjoy Travel elaborated on why the New Zealand accent claimed the top spot as the sexiest in the world saying,

“To a novice ear, the New Zealand accent might sound just like the Australian accent, but Big 7 Travel readers disagree. The ‘Newzild’ dialect is outrageously charming. The sexiest accent in the world? It’s official.”

South African Accent Voted Second Sexiest in the World

The publication had this to say about the South African accent,

“Afrikaans is a hugely popular accent with many people across the globe, thanks to their unique tones and Saffa slang.”

While South Africa proudly holds the highest ranking among African countries on this list, three other nations also secured spots in the top 50 sexiest accents worldwide.

Ranking African Accents: Zimbabwe and Nigeria’s Surprising Placements

South Africa’s SADC neighbour, Zimbabwe, outpaced Nigeria and Egypt, securing the 20th spot. Nigeria and Egypt followed at 29th and 36th, respectively.

Enjoy Travel highlighted that Zimbabwean English is distinct from British and South African English accents with its old-fashioned words and open vowels.

“Zimbabwean English is different from both British and South African English accents, with many old-fashioned words and open vowels,” Enjoy Travel said.
