A heart-wrenching event occurred at Nketa High School in Bulawayo, where a female student, whose name has not been disclosed, tragically ended her life after facing rejection from her boyfriend regarding her pregnancy. The Form Four student was buried on Monday in a solemn ceremony that saw attendance from friends, family, and members of the community.

Rejection That Led To Suicide

Reports indicate that after discovering her pregnancy, the girl sought support from her boyfriend, an Upper-six student at the same institution. Unfortunately, he reportedly denied responsibility for the pregnancy, which is believed to have caused her significant emotional distress, ultimately leading to suicidal thoughts. On July 12, she visited her boyfriend’s home, and later that day, her aunt found her and brought her back to their residence.

People assume that she had tried to reach out again to her boyfriend regarding their pregnancy. From the mood that she came back in, it seems her boyfriend stood firm in his decision to deny the pregnancy. This further fuelled the girl’s despair and s_uicidal thoughts.

Tragic Outcome

Despite her aunt’s efforts to intervene, the girl took her own life by hanging herself. Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident, although initial police reports did not mention the pregnancy.

According to the police, the girl had left home under the pretence of attending extra lessons but was later seen entering her boyfriend’s home. Concerned by her absence, her aunt discovered her hanging from a guava tree in their yard. Despite the prompt arrival of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
