Mai Jeremaya Reveals She Begged One Of Her Rapists To Wear A Condom

Social media influencer Mai Jeremaya revealed that she begged one of her two rapists to wear a condom when she realized that they were going to violate her.

Social media personality Ashley Masendeke, popularly known as Mai Jeremaya, delivered emotional testimony against two men accused of sexually assaulting her at a Harare lodge earlier this year. The influencer chose to forego the typical anonymity granted to sexual offence victims, bringing unprecedented public attention to the case.

Mai Jeremaya’s Testimony During Court Proceedings

Before Regional Magistrate Letwin Rwodzi, Masendeke recounted the April 30 incident involving defendants Thabo Blessing Dube and Martin Charlie, who maintain their innocence. The prosecution, led by Cecilia Mashingaidze, presented a chilling narrative.

The influencer broke down upon realising the impending assault on the day. When she saw Thabo removing his clothes, she reportedly pleaded for condom use during the encounter.

Mai Jeremaya narrated how she was physically and psychologically coerced during the incident. She admitted initially concealing the incident due to fears of public scrutiny and alleged threats from her attackers regarding access to confidential information. Mai Jeremaya alleged that her assailants told her they would find out where she lived and harm her.

She narrated how the encounter left her physically and psychologically sick, so that she now relies on medication, which disrupts her sleeping patterns.

Mai Jeremaya shared that the ordeal has caused significant damage to her relationship with her partner. Even though the two had problems before the incident, they have grown apart afterwards.

Contrasting Narratives in Courtroom Drama

The defence presented a starkly different version of events, claiming the encounter was consensual and financially motivated. According to the accused, Masendeke allegedly initiated contact and proposed paid sexual services.

The two claimed that she voluntarily participated in intimate acts, and this case was a way to extort payment from them. They shared that Mai Jeremaya involved a private investigator, Tafadzwa Chidawa, in an attempt to coerce them into paying them.
