Mai Titi Officially Registers With NACZ Ahead of Nollywood Movie Premiere

Felistas Murata, widely known as Mai Titi, has officially registered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) under the film and digital category, marking an important milestone in her creative career.

This recognition not only highlights her dedication to Zimbabwe’s arts community but also emphasises the growing importance of formalising the creative industry in the country.

During a meeting with NACZ chief executive Napoleon Nyanhi, Mai Titi received her registration certificate, a move that cements her position as a leading figure in the arts.

Nyanhi noted that many artists have started registering their work over the past six months, giving them professional credibility and opportunities previously unavailable. Registration provides legal recognition, access to government support, and potential partnerships with institutions—key elements that can elevate an artist’s career.

He said:

“We are actively encouraging the Zimbabwean creative community to formalise their status by registering. We will then be providing professional development and network opportunities through participation in workshops, sector forums, and capacity-building initiatives that foster innovation and collaboration. Registration offers legal recognition and credibility, which is crucial in a competitive industry where professional credibility can open doors to new opportunities.”

The timing of Mai Titi’s registration is especially exciting, as it coincides with the upcoming premiere of her debut Nollywood feature film, Lost in Ashes, set for next month at Westgate Cinemas in Harare.

The film is a significant cross-cultural collaboration featuring Nigerian stars, including Mike Godson, Mike Ezuruonye, Chinyere Wilfred, Anita Joseph, Patrick Ezeike, and Joy. Directed and executive produced by Mai Titi alongside Iyke Odife, the movie draws heavily on her life experiences, blending personal storytelling with professional ambition.
