Man Arrested For Beating And Stripping His Mother Naked For ‘Hating’ His Wife
A 23-year-old man from in Mncedisi Village, Lower Gweru, was arrested for brutally beating his mother. The incident, which occurred on November 18, 2024, led to the son being charged with assault and brought before the Gweru Magistrates Court for sentencing.

The incident that led to the son’s arrest

The accused, a young man from the village, arrived home intoxicated and immediately began accusing his mother of harbouring hatred towards his wife. The situation quickly escalated as the man became increasingly aggressive and violent.

In a fit of rage, the man threatened to kill his mother, making a chilling remark about decapitating her. His threats were followed by physical violence, during which he struck the woman with an iron rod multiple times. The blows were aimed at her left eye, forehead, and various other parts of her body. Despite the vicious assault, the mother attempted to flee, but her son went as far as stripping her naked to prevent her escape.

When the victim screamed for help, neighbours rushed to her aid. Her cries alerted the community, who intervened and managed to rescue her from further harm.

The mother sustained several injuries during the violent attack. These included a deep cut on her forehead and significant swelling around her left eye, both of which required medical attention. The physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon the victim was severe, highlighting the brutal nature of the assault.

Legal Proceedings

Following the assault, the accused was arrested and charged with domestic violence. He was presented before the Gweru Magistrates Court, where the court found him guilty of the crime. The legal proceedings revealed the depth of the violence and the severity of the threat posed to the victim’s life.

On November 29, 2024, the accused was convicted of domestic violence, and the court remanded him in custody for sentencing. He is set to return to court on December 3, 2024, for final sentencing, where the judge will determine the appropriate penalty for his violent actions.

The NPA emphasises the importance of resolving conflicts without resorting to violence. Their message urges the public to avoid aggression and instead seek peaceful resolutions or mediation services when dealing with personal disputes.
