Jah Prayzah Accused of ‘Stealing’ New Song “Moto” from Fellow Zimbabwean Musician

Jah Prayzah’s latest album, Ndini Mukudzeyi, has been making waves since its grand launch in Harare last weekend, but the celebrations might be short-lived. A new plagiarism storm is brewing — and it’s not the first time the award-winning artist has faced such accusations.

Scholar Says ‘Moto’ Sounds Too Familiar

Dr. Blessing Ivan Vava, a respected academic and regional director at Crisis Coalition in Zimbabwe, took to Facebook to raise alarm over the similarities between Jah Prayzah’s song Moto and Kanyarugwe by fellow artist Kurai Makore. The latter track was released in 2024.

In his post, Dr. Vava wrote:

“What happens to copyright law? Listening to Jah Prayzah’s song Moto from his latest album Ndini Mukudzei sounds like a plagiarised song of Kurai Makore’s Kanyarugwe.”

A History of Similar Controversies

This isn’t new territory for Jah Prayzah. Back in 2014, he publicly admitted to copying the beat for his song Mwanasikana from Ghanaian artist Emmanuel Samini’s 2007 hit Samini.

At the time, Jah claimed it was an honest mistake.

“I was watching an African movie and I enjoyed the soundtrack. I didn’t know it was a released song,” he said. “The beat was good and I was tempted to use it on one of my songs.”

He said he only realised the track belonged to Samini after a friend pointed out the similarities and sent him a link.
