Minnie Baloyi Launches US$10 000 Weight-Loss Challenge

Minnie Baloyi, the wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has marked her 50th birthday by launching a wellness movement that will begin with a three-month weight-loss challenge carrying a US$10 000 prize pool.

The initiative, known as the Wellness Plus Movement, will focus on promoting healthier lifestyles while incorporating physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Baloyi announced the initiative in a Facebook post, explaining that reaching the milestone had made her reflect on how she wanted to use the occasion.

“As I turned 50 a few days ago I asked myself “what will I do differently?” to thank the Lord for the this gift of half a century of my life … I decided to do several initiatives to assist myself, people and society around me. Therefore, I’m launching a Wellness Plus Movement.”

US$10 000 Weight-Loss Challenge

The first programme under the movement will challenge overweight and obese participants to lose at least 10kg by 20 December 2026.

Baloyi said she would personally provide US$10 000 in prize money, with US$5 000 going to the winner, US$3 000 to second place and US$2 000 to the third-placed participant.

She said additional partners were being engaged and that other prizes would be announced once those arrangements had been finalised.

The challenge is expected to run for three months and will require participants to achieve their weight loss through physical exercise and diet.

To kickstart the movement, I’m introducing a 3 month weight loss challenge where by the overweight participants will have to lose at least 10kgs before Christmas. I will personally give three winners at least 10 000usd prize money ( 1st $5000, 2nd $3000 and 3rd $2000), but we are engaging more partners for other prizes which will be announced soon,” she wrote.

Rules And Judging

According to Baloyi, the competition will be open to overweight or obese girls, boys, women and men, with BMI being used to determine eligibility.

Participants will have to post at least three workout sessions on their social media pages every week and agree to be weighed or assessed by independent assessors during registration.

She also warned that cheating would result in immediate disqualification.

The judging will take into account more than the amount of weight lost, with participants also expected to demonstrate positive influence and promote healthy lifestyles in society.

Baloyi said the judging panel would include health and lifestyle experts and enthusiasts.

Wellness Movement To Take Broader Approach

While the weight-loss competition is the first major initiative, Baloyi said Wellness Plus would cover a much wider understanding of health and well-being.

She referenced practices including yoga, meditation and herbal care, as well as modern wellness models that consider different aspects of a person’s overall well-being.

Baloyi’s announcement also invited members of the public to suggest two additional rules for the challenge, saying she wanted measures that would ensure the competition remained fair while producing meaningful health benefits.
