Commissioner Muduva’s Wife Reveals What She Claimed Happened Behind Closed Doors
The late Lyliosa Chirara claimed she had not had sex with her husband, Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Commissioner Dr Martin Muduva, since 2022, according to a suicide note she left behind.
In the lengthy note, Chirara described what she said was years of suffering in her marriage. She also claimed that Muduva had become distant after obtaining his PhD, had kept his earnings private and had eventually found another woman whom he considered more suitable for his status.
She began by apologising to her relatives and explaining why she believed she had reached the point she did.
“I have done this because of being tormented and the suffering I have endured for a long time and the distress I have suffered.”
Chirara said people around her believed she was at peace, but claimed that this was not her reality.
“Admittedly, many think that I have peace of mind but that’s not true and I have only been suffering all my life while my husband was lying to people that he has a lot of love for me while he doesn’t have any.”
Chirara’s Claims About Sex And Her Husband’s PhD
One of the most striking sections of the note concerned the couple’s intimate relationship.
Chirara claimed that Muduva stopped entering their bedroom and that they had not had sex for several years.
“From 2022 to 2025 he never entered our bedroom and he never had sex with me because he now had a PHD so his PHD did not want him to have sex with a woman who was not educated.”
She went on to say that Muduva had no time for intimacy with her.
“He doesn’t have any time for sex with me.”
Chirara also alleged that she was excluded from information about Muduva’s earnings.
“The money he has been making, all these years, he said it was his money and, as his wife, I don’t have to know how much money he earns at his workplace.”
She said she had attempted to establish her own source of income by buying 500 chickens for an egg business.
“I tried to do a hustle and ndakatenga huku dzangu 500 dzemazai.”
According to her account, Muduva objected to having the chickens at their home, and she eventually sold them.
Claims About Another Woman And A Roora Ceremony
Chirara then made claims about another woman, alleging that Muduva had spent an extended period living with her.
She said he eventually returned home and told her he had found a wife who was better suited to his position.
“He has spent a whole year staying with his girlfriend and he came back to tell me that he finally found a proper wife who fits his status.”
Chirara claimed Muduva described the woman as someone who understood IT and could accompany him to public gatherings.
She further alleged that Muduva secretly married the woman with members of his family present.
“He went to secretly marry the woman, he went with his relatives and I only learnt about it when I saw it on a status she posted about the Roora Day.”
Chirara named the woman as Patience Mangwiro and accused her of wanting to destroy her marriage.
“Now, let Patiece Mangwiro be happy because all she wanted was to destroy my marriage with Martin.”
She also referred to a previous vow she had made to Muduva about their marriage.
“As I had vowed to Martin that our union would only be ended by death, this is the death that I meant.”
What Chirara Said To Her Children And Family
Chirara repeatedly apologised to her relatives and said she believed her children were not responsible for the problems she described.
“My kids, they don’t know anything, yes, I wanted to see them grow but I would still have died because of stress, sorry, I have failed.”
She also addressed her mothers, saying she understood the pain her actions would cause them.
“I know I have inflicted pain on you where it hurts the most but understand this letter, I have written it with tears streaming down my cheeks.”
At another point, she wrote:
“I’m crying, I’m suffering, murume avekundisema, kundisvipira mate nhasi nekuti ave nemari, akanganwa kwatakabva.”
This translates to: “I’m crying, I’m suffering, my husband now hates me and spits on me because he now has money; he has forgotten where we came from.”
Chirara also addressed the Muduva family, saying she believed they could now accept Mangwiro as the woman they considered more suitable for him.
She referred to one family elder whom she said had previously encouraged Muduva to find an educated wife.
“I was always trying to tell you how I was suffering but I could see that you didn’t have any concern about what I was telling you until you told me that you didn’t want to intervene in our problems.”
She questioned why the same person had become involved when Mangwiro was allegedly being married.
The note concluded with a message concerning her children.
“Chisarai mugarike, please take care of my children.”
The Herald published the account on 14 September 2026, reproducing and translating substantial portions of the note. The allegations contained in the note have not been independently verified by iHarare and are presented as Chirara’s account of events.
The deaths of Chirara and Muduva have left their family facing the aftermath of a tragedy in which serious allegations about their marriage have now emerged through the note. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain subject to investigation.

“Now, let Patiece Mangwiro be happy because all she wanted was to destroy my marriage with Martin.

“You went to marry, you did well. You went as the father and that’s exactly what you should have done. I was always trying to tell you how I was suffering but I could see that you didn’t have any concern about what I was telling you until you told me that you didn’t want to intervene in our problems.
“But, you intervened when Patience Mangwiro was being married because you wanted her. Chisarai mugarike, please take care of my children.”
