Nine women aged between 19 and 27 have been fined after they were caught offering sexual services under the guise of massage therapy in Harare.
The women were arrested on Friday, 2 May 2025, during a police sting operation. Authorities acted on tip-offs about social media adverts on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook, where the women allegedly promoted massage and sexual services for a set fee. The ads included the location of their “business.”
Police sent an undercover officer to the premises, posing as a client. Once inside, he was led to a bedroom where all nine women appeared semi-naked. The officer then identified himself, and the rest of the police team moved in to make the arrests.
The group first appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Banda on Saturday, 3 May, but did not enter pleas. They returned to court on Friday, 9 May, and pleaded guilty to charges under Section 81(b)(2) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, which prohibits soliciting for prostitution.
Each woman was fined USD30. If they fail to pay, they face one month behind bars.
