The remains of five liberation heroes will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre in Harare this Thursday.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently granted the five figures National Hero status. Their reinterment will form part of this year’s Heroes Day commemorations.
The ceremony will bring together close family members. It will honour the lives and sacrifices of the fallen liberation icons.
Five liberation heroes honoured at national shrine
The national heroes include Cde Gwakuba Ndlovu, Cde Petros Khumalo, Cde Herbert Zaba Sambo, Cde Joseph Zethi Dube and Cde Shumirai Wekwete.
Authorities will conduct the reinterment ceremony at the country’s premier shrine. The event will recognise their contributions during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
Furthermore, the occasion will celebrate the dedication of those who fought for independence.
Heroes Day theme celebrates liberation legacy
This year’s Heroes Day commemorations run under the theme, “Lest We Forget.”
The theme highlights the sacrifices made by Zimbabwe’s liberation fighters. It also encourages citizens to preserve the history of the struggle.
Additionally, the commemorations reflect the nation’s commitment to honouring individuals who shaped Zimbabwe’s journey to independence.
